It’s that time of year again when thoughts are turning towards the holidays, family and giving. So it seems fitting that La Paz Community School is gearing up for their 2nd Annual Fundraising Fiesta on December 6th, 2008 at the Flamingo Marina Resort from 5-10 pm.  See their article and ad elsewhere in this issue.

The Second Annual Raft-up will take place December 7 from Tamarindo Beach, leaving El Pescador at 9:30, returning at sunset.  Boats sail to a remote beach where the beach party will be held with games, catered lunch and barbecue.  Tickets at $30 in advance from Blue Dolphin at Kahiki Restaurant, $40 on the day, include free T-shirt.  More information at 8-842-3204.

The Congo Lounge is now open at La Caracola for music and parties.  Call Greg at 2-653-0583 for details.

Tamarindo’s Halloween was a huge blast!  Main parties were at Pasatiempo (much quieter than usual) and Aqua Disco (estimated 800 partiers inside and many more out) and the kids’ party at Coral Reef.  Winners were a couple of politicos, a very good Obama, and a painted-up Hawaiian tart.  We believe this was a sympathy award:  “This decrepit old dodderer probably won’t see another Halloween, so we’d better give him a prize now.”  Thanks anyway.  The usual spread is on our centerfold.

Now open is Jaguart Bar, behind Voodoo Lounge.  Jaguart, operated by Andrea and Diego Armedo, is a space for arts and music by local artists; open Monday-Saturday and will also operate a daytime organic fair on Thursday through Saturday.

So many fundraisers, and so many worthy causes.  But why do some of them start so late?  You don’t get the older (and possibly more affluent) crowd, nor the Howler photographer staying to see your presentation if it starts at 11 p.m.  Why not give your show earlier, then continue to party as long as you like?

We have it on good authority that the very cut-price ($8 each way to Florida) Spirit Air will start flying into Liberia at the end of January.

CR Paradise has moved to much nicer premises in Plaza Conchal 2, right on the street in units 6 & 7.
